Here’s how to make brownie in a mug with a recipe that is so simple yet oh so decadent. Once you’ve made this brownie in a mug recipe once, you’ll be doing it, again and again. It’s so easy, quick, and delicious, so let’s dive in.
While making a large cake is super satisfying, we love smaller desserts that are individually portioned like these Mini Cheesecakes or Mini Pecan Pies, Mini Cherry Pie or Easy Mini Black Forest Cupcakes. And we LOVE even more, a mug cake like my daughter’s viral Oreo Mug Cake!
Why Brownie In a Mug?
One of the best reasons to make a brownie in a mug rather than cooking it the traditional way is that it is so easy and quick.
You just pop your ingredients into a mug and place it in the microwave for around a minute. The time will depend on your microwave and mug size. It really is as simple as that.
Now to clarify, don’t underestimate how chocolate-y gooey delicious these brownies are! They could be simple, quick and fool proof, but they’re just as DIVINE
Another thing I love is that this brownie recipe is designed to be single-serve. So you can make just enough brownies that you need.
If you just feel like a brownie for yourself then you don’t have to make a whole batch, you can just whip up this brownie in a mug for you to enjoy effortlessly, all by yourself.
Lastly, this is a really cozy recipe to make when it’s all cooked up inside a chocolatey mug and it’s quite impressive if you’re making it for others. It will certainly cure any chocolate cravings you or any guests might have.
My kids also LOVE making this brownie recipe and they brag about it to everyone they know! 🙂
How to Make Brownie In a Mug
The beauty of this recipe is its simplicity. You’ll need the basic simplest ingredients gathered up. You also need a tablespoon measuring, a small whisk and a small spoon or spatula.
Firstly make sure you use a microwave-safe mug. A nice thick mug works best. Classically I use a latte mug which ranges anywhere between 11-15 ounce. In other words, if you fill it with water, it should fill about 1 cup and a half.
You firstly need to add all the dry ingredients into the mug. Start with the flour.
Add in cocoa powder.
Now add brown sugar and pinch of salt.
Mix these together well.
Now it’s time to add in your wet ingredients.
Start by adding the oil or melted butter (some kind of saturated fat is important here).
Now add in the vanilla.
Finally, add milk or coffee (depending on preference).
The coffee adds an extra depth of flavor to the brownie, however it does slightly add caffeine. So if you’re making this for kids for example, it’s probably best to go in with milk only.
You then need to add in your chocolate chips.
Mix both the wet and dry ingredients together and it will form a lovely gooey paste.
Now it’s time to cook your brownie in a mug in the microwave. If you want, you can add a few chocolate chips to the top of your mixture before you put it in the microwave for something a little extra.
Once cooked you will have a lovely gooey brownie in a mug that you can enjoy right away, with the optional addition of ice cream on top.
The brownie in a mug is BEST eaten right out of the microwave while it’s still warm.
