Whipped Feta

There’s something luscious about whipped feta that makes it taste so awesome! The basic concept of whipping feta cheese into a creamy whipped feta dip is basic and so simple, yet life changing! Similar to whipping chickpeas into hummus, you need to make this whipped feta recipe ASAP!!

Top view of a plate of whipped feta surrounded by olives , cucumbers, hot sauce and pita chips

I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but you don’t really need to be a Feta lover to absolutely LOVE whipped feta! Again, compare it to the hummus example, there’s that beautiful hint of chickpea flavor that’s not overpowering.

Now if you’re a feta cheese lover–say hello to Best Feta Cucumber Salad Bites , Mini Zesty Feta Stuffed Peppers, Tomato Salad, Quick Shrimp Pasta with Garlic Feta Sauce, Baked Salmon With Greek Dressing, Watermelon Salad Wedges, Grandpa’s Fried Eggplant Salad and Authentic Turkish Pizza (Lahmacun).

Why Whipped Feta

Whipping up Feta cheese crumbles with really simple flavoring such as garlic, quality Mina Olive Oil, and fresh herbs, transforms it to a luscious creation.

To make the texture super creamy, I’ve tried adding Greek yogurt, sour cream and cream cheese separately. I preferred the tangy yogurt followed by the sour cream.
A hand holding pita bread dipping it in the whipped feta dip

Once whipped in the food processor, you can control how thin or thick you’d love the whipped feta to be. You can add a hint of spice, and honey for a delicious contrast.

The beauty of making whipped feta is not just to use it as a dip, but much more!

How to Use Whipped Feta
A whole board of whipped feta dip on a plate, some pita chips, cucumbers, apples, olives, Moroccan olive oil, some fresh herbs

  • Makes the best DIP, and top it with an amazing nut olive topping (more on that below)
  • Serve with homemade Pita Chips (recipe coming soon)!
  • Spread on toast
  • Use it as a sauce for grilled meats and veggies
  • Use it on your pizza!
  • Turn it into a salad dressing
  • Use it as a base sauce for many dishes like this Lamb Shanks with Skyr, Honeynut Squash and more!
  • Serve it with Perfect Baked Potato Wedges with Avocado Crema, Air Fryer Chicken Wings, Calamari, Lamb Gyro Recipe and so much more!

How to Make Whipped Feta

You’ll need a food processor or a high speed blender for this feta recipe. I prefer a food processor by far! And then you’ll prep your ingredients. This dip uses really simple ingredients.

Whipped Feta Ingredients:

ingredients for whipped feta including feta cheese, olive oil, garlic, greek yogurt, honey, salt and pepper

  • Feta cheese (Use your favorite feta cheese here, goat or cow or both) at room temperature.
  • Greek Yogurt ( You can also use regular yogurt here if you’d like a thinner dip or cream cheese/skyr/sour cream for a thicker dip)
  • garlic
  • salt and pepper
  • Honey (for a bit of sweetness)
  • You can add lemon juice and fresh herbs if you’d like.
  • Quality Moroccan Olive Oil ( I LOVE Mina Olive Oil)
  • You can read so much about my love for Moroccan Olive oil in this Olive Oil Cake, Tuna Salad Recipe with Olive Oil Dressing, Labneh Dip with Zaatar Pistachio Mint Olive Topping, Spaghetti aglio e olio – Olive oil Pasta, Chimichurri Recipe, and this phenomenal Honeynut Squash recipe served over spiced yogurt!
Now that you have the basic feta dip recipe ingredients, you’re all set to go. I do however strongly suggest you make the topping as well! You won’t regret it! This is the topping that goes over the dip, in fact I only add it to half the dip. And that’s mainly because if someone doesn’t prefer toppings, then they can enjoy pure feta bliss!

Topping Ingredients:

ingredients for topping the whipped feta incuding green olives, olive oil, walnuts and fresh thyme

  • Green olives (pitted is easier) that I also use from Mina.
  • Fresh thyme (leaves only)
  • Walnuts
  • More luscious Mina olive oil to bind everything together.
  • Dollops of Moroccan Harissa Sauce from Mina too! (Harissa is the Moroccan version of hot sauce, but it’s got so much more flavor than regular hot sauce! You taste the hot pepper flavor along with some spices.

In your food processor, add in the feta, yogurt, garlic, seasoning, honey and olive oil.
initial blitz of the food processor getting all ingredients mixed well first

You’ll notice that the initial blitz of food processing will basically blend in the dip ingredients. So for that, you’ll need to scrape the bowl several times and keep processing until the dip is smooth and fluffy.
fluffy creamy whipped feta in the food processor

You’ll notice here the consistency of the whipped feta, and it’s your chance to thin it out with extra Greek yogurt and olive oil, or thicken it out with extra feta cheese.

Keep processing your feta dip until it’s fluffy and super creamy, and feel free to taste so you can adjust seasoning.

Now you’ll scoop the creamy whipped feta into the serving plate.
a hand pouring the feta dip in a plate and scooping the topping using a spoon

Have your toppings ready – chop olives, nuts and herbs. Then mix everything together in a bowl with the olive oil and season well.

Spread the toppings over half of the dip.

Serve the creamy whipped feta dip on a large board with pita chips, sliced apples, cucumbers, extra spice, roasted red peppers and enjoy!!

SO GOOD! So quick and easy and absolutely worth making!

Whipped Feta Tips

  1. Start with your favorite type of feta cheese. Crumbled feta or creamy works well. Goat or cow or a combo also works!
  2. Greek yogurt is used in the recipe to add the creamy to the feta crumbles. Feel free to use sour cream, regular yogurt or even cream cheese for an extra layer of creamy. Ricotta also adds a unique texture.
  3. Seasoning and flavoring such as garlic, honey, lemon juice, spice, herbs are all up to your taste.
  4. Always remember you need to scrape the bowl of the food processor as you go.
  5. The topping is an extra layer of flavor and texture to the whipped feta so I urge you to add it!
  6. Serve right away with homemade pita chips and veggies, and fruits
  7. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for upto 5 days
  8. Check out the section above on how to use whipped feta other than in a dip.

Q&A

How long can you store whipped feta?

You can store the whipped in an air tight container anywhere between 3-5 days. This will depends on additions you may have added to the dip which sometimes cause it to go bad sooner. If using my recipe below, then 5 days.

Can you freeze whipped feta?

Absolutely! You can place the whipped feta in a ziploc or air tight container and freeze for up to 3 months. Defrost in your fridge and serve right away.

Can you substitute other cheese for feta?

Since this is a whipped feta dip, I’m going for the feta flavor! You can however make a whipped Ricotta dip or whipped Goat cheese dip–both are delicious!! Follow this recipe and adjust the seasoning to your taste. For example, I don’t add garlic to the whipped ricotta or goat.
