Why Pumpkin Donuts
This donut holes recipe is made using pumpkin in the batter and coated in cinnamon sugar. The combination of these ingredients make for a moist, melt in your mouth and delicious donut!
Remember those Pumpkin Spice Latte Donuts ? It’s basically the same base of pumpkin donuts, but coated with a silky espresso glaze–to die for! That’s another twist on pumpkin donuts recipe that you must make!
If you’re skeptical at all, let me assure you–you won’t get a strong pumpkin-y taste, you’ll only get the sweetness of pumpkins. Plus you’ll get an absolutely tender and moist donut without the hassle of frying! That’s why I make those baked 🙂
Another baked donut that you cant miss is this Baked Donut Holes with Cinnamon Sugar. Very similar to this one, except minus the pumpkin. While I absolutely LOVE that recipe too, I will tell you honestly–the pumpkin donuts is much more moist!
Similar to regular cinnamon rolls, those Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls are another level! And this quick treat that’s a hit on Pinterest is this Instant Chia Pumpkin Pudding! 🙂
Finally some savory pumpkin recipes you can try are those: Fall Baked Pasta with Roasted Pumpkin, Kale and Mushrooms and Kale Mushroom Pumpkin Alfredo Pasta.
What is the Donut hole?
Today’s pumpkin donuts are made into donut holes. So as silly as it may sound, lots of people have asked me what is a donut hole 🙂
It’s basically the center round piece of a donut whether fried or baked. Usually the donut doles are fried into round shapes, however today we’re baking them into a mini muffin tin so it has the same perfect round shape.
Similarly to any donut, the donut holes are coated or glazed.
Make Pumpkin Donuts Recipe
Firstly, in a large bowl, mix all the dry ingredients together. This includes flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, or pumpkin spice. Make sure they are evenly blended before adding in the wet ingredients.
This is a one bowl type of recipe so no need to fuss about any fancy baking technique!
The. you’ll add the wet ingredients like eggs then butter, pumpkin puree, and yogurt. Now mix thoroughly together with the dry ingredients until well combined and smooth, and you have your donut hole batter that you will be cooking.
You can deep fry your donut hole batter in vegetable oil, or bake them in the oven.
If you deep fry your donut holes you will need to get your oil to the right oil temperature of 365 degrees f to 380 degrees f. You will need to deep fry them until they are golden brown and remove them with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel to absorb the excess oil.
Make sure you are super careful when working with hot oil like this as oil burns can be very serious.
However, with this recipe, I generally choose to bake the donut holes. As this recipe is made with pumpkin and yogurt, it is already a very wet batter. Baking, instead of deep frying, leaves these donut holes much less greasy but still totally moist and soft.
To bake these donut holes you will need to grease a mini muffin tray and add your batter to each of the muffin sections. For this, I use an ice cream scoop. It makes the perfect portion sizes for your donut hole as well as the perfect shape.
You then need to place the tray in a preheated oven at around 350 degrees F until they are puffed and slightly golden brown.
When ready, take them out of the oven and place them on a baking sheet or rack to cool before adding the finishing sugary touches to this super tasty donut recipe.
Cinnamon Sugar Topping
Once your pumpkin donut holes have been deep-fried or baked it’s time to add the cinnamon spice and granulated sugar.
In a bowl mix your sugar and cinnamon together.
Melt some butter and toss the pumpkin donuts well in the butter.
As soon as you have covered the donut holes in melted butter, place them in the bowl with the cinnamon and granulated sugar mix and toss them so that they are all fully coated.
All that’s left to do now is eat and enjoy!
For those who love sweet treats, this is a recipe you do not want to miss out on. Whether you want to make it year-round, or during the spooky season, it will work as a homemade dessert for yourself or to impress your guests.
There’s no point hanging around when it comes to making this donut hole recipe. Get baking as soon as you can to see how good this mouthwatering dessert really is! Especially now before pumpkin season ends!
ENJOY!!
