How to Make Homemade Burgers
First of all, can I say hooray for BBQ season and BBQ burgers?!! So likewise, hooray for making these burgers on the grill!
Also for the sautéed onions and mushrooms, since we’re talking bbq–how about grilling them? That’s totally like a bonus round of flavor. However, you can just sauté them in a skillet as well.
Let’s try both options and you can pick whichever is best for you. If you’re going for the BBQ, you’re gonna heat it up. Now either use a grill sheet (the perforated ones) with sliced onions and mushrooms, or skewer the onions and mushrooms for grilling.
The cheeseburgers start off with ground beef ( or lamb or a mix), seasoned and shaped into a flat disc. Add the shredded cheese in the center and fold over the meat to enclose the cheese. Then re-roll and re-flatten the patties into the size and thickness you prefer.
BBQ the burgers for 4-6 minutes per side with the grill lid shut. The mushrooms and onions can be grilled side by side and ready at the same time.Â
If you’re using a skillet. you’ll need to heat up a non stick skillet and sauté the mushrooms and onions for nearly 8-10 minutes. Remove them from the skillet but use the same one to pan fry your burgers in for a but of extra flavor too!
While the patties are cooking, you can begin spreading the buns with the condiments of your choice. Today I used: Ranch, Sriracha, avocados, arugula, salt and pepper. Extras: Tomatoes, more onions, greens, pickles, etc.Â
Finally once the burger is ready, sprinkle some extra cheddar cheese over the top and it will melt naturally over the hot burger. So stack the cheeseburger over the bun and DIG in!!
Tips for Homemade Burgers
- Make sure not to overcook the beef – no longer than five minutes per side. If your beef patties are really thick, then you may need to cover the pan after flipping and cook them covered.
- You can use lean or extra-lean beef for your patties, depending on your taste.
- Top your burger buns with different toppings, condiments and flavors.
- Try a different cheese if you like – blue cheese is a great alternative for cheddar in this recipe!
