This Oreo Mug Cake is when you need a quick chocolate fix and can’t spare time or have ingredients. It’s DIVINE, addictively good, easy to make that my daughter has made this video for you! 5 minutes start to finish and you’ve got one decadent cake!

Here’s an Oreo mug cake that will take over you LIFE! Do you remember my viral recipe for Brownie In A Mug ? It’s very similar, except today’s oreo cake recipe uses much much less ingredients. I urge you to try both and compare, they don’t need more than 5 mins of prep time, one minute of microwave cooking and you’ll end up with PURE chocolate DECADENCE!

Let’s get started! Watch the video above and see how simple it is to make, and below you’ll find details, step by step and tips for a great recipe! My kids make this on a daily basis now and even my 10 years old can pull it up on her own 🙂

Originally, this Oreo mug cake was D’s recipe–my daughter. She made it for fun as both my girls love Oreo! It soon became a family favorite and an on demand recipe by the grandparents, neighbours and friends! So we filmed it for you guys and we knew this had to be SHARED and not to be MISSED!!!

Oreo Mug Cake Ingredients

Ingredients for oreo mug cake including: oreos, milk and baking powder on a white marble surrounded by sliced strawberries

  • Oreos –Use the regular ones, not the chocolate fudge or the extra cream. While it’s tempting to use the more chocolatey versions, we found that the classic ones below work best.A hand holding the oreo cookie to be used which is the regular one, not the thick or double cream or chocolate fudge or any other variation
  • Milk –Use whole milk or 2 % for better results. We didn’t like the skim milk option here.
  • Baking powder — Not baking soda. Use aluminum free baking powder.

How to Make The Best Oreo Mug Cake

  3. Finally, add in the baking powder.A hand holding a fork to start mashing the oreos with the ingredients to make oreo cake
  4. The trick is to use a fork. You’ll need to mash the Oreos until smooth and blend it with the milk and baking powder.smooth blended oreo mug cake in a bowl
  5. It will be shockingly smooth actually unlike  what you expect. The Oreos will blend so well cookies and cream and all!A hand pouring the batter into a ramekin
  6. Now choose your mug or ramekin that is microwave safe and pour the batter into the ramekin and it’s ready for the microwave.

  7. Now it’s a one minute waiting game and you’ll end up with the perfect oreo mug cake ever!A hand holding the oreo mug cake right our of the microwave
  8. The one thing that struck me when making this over and over is the CAKEY texture you end up with!! You wouldn’t believe as it has no flour, cocoa powder, rather cookies, milk and powder. It yields a really phenomenal CAKE not dessert!A hand taking a spoon of the oreo mug cake served with ice cream and showing close up the cakey texture of the cake!
  9. Have a look at that texture!! SERIOUSLY!!

How to Know your Microwave?

This is the golden question as our recipe is a microwave recipe similar to the Brownie In A Mug cake. Here are key points:

  • Our microwave is 1100 Watt which is the average watts for microwaves. You may find older models that have a range of 700-1500 watts so it’s best to double check.
  • If your microwave operates at a lower watt, you’ll add about 10 seconds of cooking time.
  • Likewise if your microwave is higher than 1100 watts, you’ll remove an average of 10 seconds of coking time.
  • While your microwave may fit 3 or so cakes, it’s best to cook ONE cake at a time. That’s because the heat will never distribute evenly and you will not have the same results.
  • Where to put the mug in the microwave? While it may sounds obvious to have it in the center, we found that placing the ramekin or mug on the OUTER EDGE of the microwave plate will distribute the heat better!

How to Serve Oreo Mug Cake

While it’s divine as it is, my kids live a scoop of ice cream on top and strawberries! They also fancy it p with an oreo cookie on the side–like WHY NOT?

D is using her favorite caramel brûlée  ice cream here–she’s fancy 🙂 My youngest loves good old vanilla ice cream or cookies n cream ice cream.

You can add things like: chocolate chips, raspberries, Homemade Caramel Sauce, crushed oreos, ice cream and more!

  • Crush the mixture well before putting he cake into the microwave, we found that a fork works best.

Over cooking the cake make it rubbery. Using extra oil, milk and liquid can be the cake mushy, along with under coking it. SO please follow the instructions carefully.

Are mug cakes safe to eat?

ABSOLUTELY! There are no raw ingredients here like eggs that are unsafe to eat, and the baking powder is cooke din the microwave so it’s safe.

Are Mug Cakes Supposed to be gooey?

Unlike traditional cakes, mug cakes are usually slightly softer and gooey in the center only.

Why are Mug Cakes so popular?

Primarily because they’re single serving, can be cooked in 1 minute and prepared in 2 minutes! So it’s a win win when you need a quick fix! They also require minimal ingredients and no baking skills, so anyone can do it!

Can I make oreo Mug cake in advance?

It’s not advised because these cakes are best enjoyed right away. They tend to become chewier and harder with time.

It will require preheating the oven to 375. Follow the recipe exactly as above and place the batter in an oven safe dish (here you can bake several at the same time, just place them on a baking tray) and bake the cake for 15 minutes until the center comes out clean with a toothpick.

This Oreo mug cake has to be the easiest dessert I’ve ever made. It is so rich, delish and gooey – perfect with a big scoop of ice cream and fresh berries. An added bonus is the older kids can make these themselves with items I usually have in the house.
