These Nacho Fries are like the BEST of both worlds–Nachos and Fries! Better than Taco Bell Nachos Fries because they’re loaded with YOUR favorite toppings only–nothing more! These fries make the best appetizer, or load them with taco beef and make them into a meal! Don’t MISS OUT!
Fries for dinner are my GO TO when they’re super loaded like these! Do you remember our crowd pleasing Carne Asada Fries? They’re topped with chunks of beef or lamb, melted cheese, fresh veggies and they’re a REAL crowd pleaser. Today’s Nacho Fries are no less!
Imagine a luscious and flavor packed Nacho Cheese Sauce Recipe poured over crispy Air Fryer French Fries, lamb or beef mixture like the Crunchwrap Supreme, nacho toppings like the ones I make Jalapeño Poppers nachos with. SO GOOD!
What are Nacho Fries?
Nacho Fries are simply nachos, except the base is cooked French fries rather than tortilla chips. So it’s like your loaded fries, except it’s loaded with nachos toppings.
Best Nacho Fries Recipe
We love these over Taco Bell nacho Fries and here’s why:
- We use our favorite ingredients and toppings–nothing more!
- Often my daughter loves them with taco beef toppings, but mostly we prefer them with just a spicy bean mixture and we make whichever version we want!
- Since they’re homemade, we use FRESH ingredients only and we don’t skimp!
- We make our own flavor packed Nacho Cheese Sauce Recipe which literally comes together in 10 minutes and stay in the fridge for a while. No processed JUNK whatsoever 🙂
- The fries we use are Air Fryer Frozen French Fries so perfectly crisp but without frying and bad oils.
- This nacho fries plate takes literally 15 minutes to make if you have some leftover taco beef–one that I use in in this Crunchwrap Supreme.
- You can make ahead most of the ingredients and just prepare the fries the same day, and assemble the plate right before serving.
- If you’re budget savvy, well let me tell you that you can make a whole plate to serve four people for the same price as one serving from Taco Bell.
- Best part is customizing your nacho fries. Add more avocados, less cilantro, extra sour cream, no beef, more cheese etc.. make it to YOUR taste! And you’ll LOVE it even more! 🙂
Nacho Fries Toppings Ingredients
Here’e the customization beauty–use more or less of any of those ingredients to make this your best nacho fries ever!
- Nacho Cheese Sauce Recipe
- Homemade Salsa or store-bought, but homemade is MUCH BETTER!
- Authentic Guacamole Recipe –Simplest and BEST!
- Diced onions, tomatoes, avocados
- Cilantro –If you have issues with cilantro use parsley
- Taco beef–use the same one for the Crunchwrap Supreme or Jalapeño Poppers
- Olives, pickled jalapeños , fresh jalapenos (depending on your spice comfort level)
- Black beans , green onions
- sour cream
- Your absolute first step is to air fry the fries. Air Fryer Frozen French Fries are the closest in tase and texture to fried street style fries, yet they are the HEALTHIEST and QUICKEST way possible to make fries! So it’s a win win!
- Spread the cooked french fries on a serving plate. At this point you can add cheese and broil them for 2 minutes to melt the cheese, or you can simply drench my all time favorite Nacho Cheese Sauce Recipe.
- On top of the cheese you wanna go with the least watery ingredients–in this case taco beef (if using) and beans.
- Now add your jalapenos, green onions, avocados, olives and all the toppings listed above. Make sure to finish off with sauces like Homemade Salsa and sour cream. And your Nacho Fries are ready!
Nacho Fries Tips
- Use Air Fryer Frozen French Fries for the best texture and tasting fries! It’s also the quickest and healthiest way to have french fries.
- Always assemble the nacho fries recipe right before serving to avoid soggy tasting fries.
- Be as generous as you cant with the toppings and customize them to your taste.
- If you prep in advance, this recipe can take you 12 minutes to make!
How to Make Nacho Fries in Advance?
- Have your beef ready. Use the same blend I used for Crunchwrap Supreme or Jalapeño Poppers. Better off make these using Birria Tacos meat for an explosion of flavors! Also try Carne Asada Fries!
- Always keep a jar of Nacho Cheese Sauce Recipe in your fridge, some 10 minute food processor Homemade Salsa for a happy day 🙂
- The toppings can be chopped/diced while the fries are air frying.
Variations on Nacho Fries
My all time favorite would be to use Birria Tacos meat for this recipe! OMG the flavors! I almost always have leftover Birria meat and I even make Birria Pizza, Birria Ramen with those leftovers. Not to mention Lamb Birria 🙂 You can also try using leftover Sheet Pan Fajitas, Fajita Bowl chicken for a new variation!
Try adding more veggies like roast veggies, swap the cheeses in the Nacho cheese sauce like Monterey Jack or your favorite, also swap the size and shape of fries.
How to store Nacho Fries?
It’s best to assemble the plate right before serving and leftovers don’t do well because the fries can get soggy. The best suggestion is to separate the toppings from the fries when storing them in the fridge. To reheat, always crisp your fries in the air fryer for 5 minutes and then add the toppings.
More on how to reheat each ingredient and how to store/prep, you can read more on each article. For the fries, Air Fryer Frozen French Fries, for the cheese sauce, Nacho Cheese Sauce Recipe, for the meat, this Crunchwrap Supreme
Do You Season the Fries?
You absolutely don’t need to season your fries for this recipe since there plenty of toppings and cheese sauce. You can however buy pre-seasoned fries and use that if you have a brand that you like and use regularly. If you’d like to season them yourself, check this Air Fryer Frozen French Fries and use chilli powder and oregano following the steps of cooking.
