WHY AIR FRYER FISH
Cooking fish with the air fryer results in a crispy exterior and a nice flaky, perfectly cooked meat. I choose to coat it today with panko bread crumbs, however, you can just as well cook it without the coating.

How to Cook Frozen Fish in the Air fryer?
I made my air fryer fish recipe with frozen fish. The first step is to thaw your fish thoroughly and then pat it dry to remove excess moisture.
The fish I used today was pickerel fillets from Sealand Quality Foods. Make sure to remove the packaging before defrosting the fish.
Cooking from frozen is not really a good idea so make sure you plan ahead to get the fish thawed.
How long to cook fish in Air fryer?
You will need to cook the fish for a total of 12 minutes. It cooks on the first side for 8 minutes and then gets flipped and cooked for an additional 4 minutes. Overcooking the pickerel will result in dry and flavorless fish so I do not recommend it.
Make Air Fryer Fish Recipe
Our air fryer fish is super easy to make!
I used Pickerel Fish, but you can make this recipe with your favorite type of fish and it will turn out perfect.
I got my pickerel from Sealand Quality Foods. Sealand Quality Foods is my favorite supplier of premium frozen seafood and meats delivered right to my door.
I love the convenience of that! This recipe is for two pieces of fish, but you can double or triple the recipe if you need to cook more than two fillets.
You’ll need a bowl of Panko bread crumbs which I’ve spiced up with chili powder, salt, pepper, and oregano.
In another bowl, you’ll make a mix of mayo, lemon juice, and spices.
The spices I used are chili powder, garlic powder, pepper, oregano, and salt.
The mayo mixture acts here as a glue for the bread crumbs to stick on the fish. It also flavors the fish tremendously!
Once crispy and ready, you can enjoy them as is with salad, bread, fries, or make some tacos!
Assemble Air Fryer Fish Tacos
Once your fish is cooked, you can flake it apart with a fork and make amazing fish tacos!
To make the tacos, first, you will need to char some tortillas.
Next, drizzle some chipotle sauce and add chopped cilantro, chopped tomatoes, and avocados.
Finally, layer the fish over that and top with extra sauce, salsa, and the fresh toppings of your choice.
Enjoy!!
TIPS FOR AIR FRYER FISH SUCCESS
- Start with quality fish such as pickerel fillets from Sealand quality foods.
- Make sure your fish fillet is defrosted
- Flavor the bread crumbs with spice for a nice flavorful crispy crust.
- The mayo mixture flavors the fish and you can flavor it endlessly! Think of fresh garlic, orange juice or zest, shallots, spices, ginger, herbs, cheeses, and so much more!
- Use a pastry brush to brush the mayo mixture over the fish and dip the coated fish into the panko right away to coat.
- Before placing the fish in the air fryer make sure to drizzle it lightly with oil. This helps the crust become extra crunchy and golden in color.
- Most air fryers require you to flip the fish halfway or a little over halfway, so set your timer for that.
- Enjoy the ready fish with salad, fries or make the tacos!

- 3 scallions (diced)
- lime juice
- 1/4 cup salsa

Instructions

In a deeper bowl, mix the fish coating ingredients.
-
Using a silicone or pastry brush, brush one side of the fish pieces with the fish coating mixture.Â

Using a tong, place the coated side of the fish fillet on the panko bowl and press down so the breadcrumbs stick onto the fish.Â

Now brush the top part of the fish using the same fish coating mixture and flip that side onto the panko bread crumbs to coat as well.
-
Make sure the bread crumbs coat both sides of the fish really well.Â
-
Place the coated fish on an air fryer basket and repeat with the remaining pieces of fish.
-
Preheat the air fryer to 400 for 2 minutes.
-
Divide the oil between the fish fillets giving each a light drizzle before placing the air fryer basket in the air fryer.
-
Cook the fish for 8 minutes and then flip the fillets and cook for an extra 3-4 minutes.Â
-
At that point, the fish is ready to serve with fries or salad or on its own!

If you wish to make the tacos follow these extra steps:Â Char some tortillas, drizzle some chipotle sauce, add chopped cilantro, chopped tomatoes, and avocados, layer the fish over that, and top with extra sauce, salsa, and fresh toppings of your choice.Â
