Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries

Easy Air fryer Sweet potato Fries come out crispy on the outside, perfectly cooked on the inside without the oil or the fuss of frying. It's a fool proof easy recipe for sweet potato fries.

Ingredients

  • 4 sweet potatoes
  • 1 teaspoon salt and pepper
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon chilli powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons oregano
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon chilli flakes optional
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  1. Start by peeling you sweet potatoes on a cutting surface.

  3. Cut each half into slices wide.

  4. Now take each of the slices and cut them into strips to look like fries. Cut them to the size and shape you like.

  5. Mix the dry seasoning in a bowl.

  6. Toss the sweet potato fries with the dry seasoning and olive oil.

    Sweet potato fries in a large bowl tossed with olive oil and a seasoning blend before it goes into the air fryer.
  7. Add the sweet potatoes to the basket of your air fryer and air fry at 400 degrees F for 10 minutes.

  8. Remove the basket, shake it well or flip the fries if needed and air fry for 6-8 minutes more. This will depend on the size of your fries.

Tips for Making Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries

  1. Use any type of sweet potatoes you prefer, even the purple ones work well. 
  2. Cut the sweet potatoes according to your taste to the size and thickness that you prefer.
  3. Make sure to cut them evenly so that they cook evenly as well. 
  4. Season your sweet potatoes and toss them in oil. This allows the seasoning to stick.
  5. When air frying, make sure to shake the basket half way and check on them. 
  6. Cooking time will depend variably on the size and thickness of your sweet potato fries.

What is the best oil to use?

We love olive oil for flavor or avocado oil for the high smoke point. Oil helps with the seasoning to stick and also with crisping up, so it's best to use some. 

Can you cook frozen sweet potato fries in the air fryer?

YES! Similar to our Air Fryer Frozen French Fries, you can follow the exact same procedure.

Can Air fryer sweet potato fries turn mushy?

If you over stuff your air fryer basket, or crowd it, you will end up with mushy fries. So avoid that by cooking your fries over several batches if needed.

How to Store Air Fryer Sweet Potato fries?

The cooked and cooled leftover fries can be stored in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 4 days. To reheat the fries, pop them back in the air fryer at 350 degrees F for 5-6 minutes. You may freeze the cooled fries as well in a single layer in a baking sheet. Place them in a ziploc bag when frozen and freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat the same way in the air fryer adding 3 extra minutes.
