Long pin for smoked salmon

This Smoked Salmon Sandwich is our favorite brunch sandwich to make. If you love a smoked salmon bagel, or if you’ve made our viral smoked salmon platter, this is FOR YOU! Layers of smoked salmon, avocados, cream cheese, arugula and more! So GOOD!

Here’s how we turn smoked salmon into a satisfying meal. It’s perfect for lunch, brunch, light dinner and more. It’s light, hearty, filling and delicious. You can totally make this Smoked Salmon Salad With Blue Cheese Dressing if prefer a salad version.

We’ve also fallen in love with this Smoked Salmon Dip for a dip version of the flavors. And for large crowds or fancy presentations, we make a Smoked Salmon Platter. But, nothing beats a sandwich when you need it. Nothing.

Take on your favorite rustic bread and slather it with cream cheese. Season it with a hefty amount of bagel seasoning, and layer all the goodness on top. Such a fun recipe to make especially with warmer days ahead for picnics.

Why You’ll Love Smoked Salmon Sandwich

  • It’s a simple, no cook recipe that’s filling and tasty.
  • You can make this with different toppings and variations of breads.
  • It comes together in 10 minutes!
  • If you’re looking for picnic options, this is a great one! Any on the go option, actually.
  • It’s loaded with nutrients and makes a healthy option for lunch, brunch or even a light dinner.
  • Similar to our Spicy Tuna Sandwich, you can make this ahead of time and enjoy later.
  • Like many smoked salmon recipes, we use our secret Dill Sauce to offer the final round of flavor. OMG so GOOD!

Ingredients You’ll Need

Ingredients for making a smoked salmon sandwich including smoked salmon on a board, some bread, some sliced cucumbers some arugula, some avocado slices, some radishes and red onion sliced and a bowl of cream cheese, a bowl of bagel seasoning and chilli flakes

  • Smoked Salmon. Use Norwegian or your favorite brand of smoked salmon.
  • Cream Cheese. If you have whipped cream cheese, it will be easier to spread. Otherwise use room temperature cream cheese to make spreading a breeze.
  • Bread. You can make this recipe into deli sandwiches, or use whole grain rolls, or rustic bread. The choice is entirely yours.
  • Seasoning. Since the smoked salmon is quite salty, watch for the amount of salt you use. We love the everything bagel seasoning here, extra black pepper  and chilli flakes .
  • Sauce. Nothing beats our Dill Sauce with smoked salmon. NOTHING. It’s a mustard, honey dill based sauce that’s utterly delicious!
  • Toppings. We used arugula, radishes, cucumbers, onions, avocados and jalapeños.
  • Lime. Use lime or lemon for a final drizzle. It’s salmon’s best friend!

How to Make Smoked Salmon Sandwich

A rustic sandwich bread cut in half and spread with cream cheese, and sprinkled with bagel seasoning

  1. Start by spreading the cream cheese over the bread you choose. You can toast the bread for an extra kick of texture if you prefer.
  2. Then you’re going to season the cream cheese. Our favorite here is the bagel seasoning which you can find at plenty of grocery stores. You can use flavored or herbed cream cheese too!
Some toppings starting to pile at the smoked salmon sandwich like arugula, onions, radishes
  3. Begin piling gradually the toppings. Start with the greens as they’re light in weight and can take the heavier toppings.
  4. Add in smaller toppings like radishes, cucumbers and sliced onions.
The smoked salmon piled over the bread and topping
  5. Now you’re going in with the smoked salmon. Layer as much or as little as you like.
the final topping is the avocado which is placed right over the smoked salmon and now the smoked salmon sandwich is layered
  6. We love finishing off with the avocados as they’re soft and buttery and stick right over the salmon. Now all your toppings are fully layered and it’s time to season them.
  7. As mentioned before, the smoked salmon is quite salty, so we skipped the salt. We opted for black pepper and chilli flakes.
A hand holding the dill mustard sauce and ready to drizzle it over the smoked salmon to finish the sandwich
  8. To finish the smoked salmon sandwich, we drizzled our Dill Sauce. It’s a DREAM in this sandwich! You guys should have a jar of this magic sauce at all times in your fridge! It’s SO GOOD!
  9. Now you’re going to put the top bread and your smoked salmon sandwich is ready!
