Why You’ll Love Buffalo Chicken Wrap

  • It’s loaded with sweet, buttery, tangy and spicy flavors thanks to the buffalo sauce. We use that sauce on Air Fryer Chicken Wings.
  • The chicken is so juicy as it’s cooked in the buffalo sauce, and you can even use store bought rotisserie chicken for this recipe.
  • Our popular Blue Cheese Dressing is spread on the tortilla and it’s everyone’s favorite combo with Buffalo sauce!
  • The wrap toppings are so versatile, we love adding crunch and texture so we use lettuce, carrots, celery, avocados and shredded cheese.
  • Making a wrap is so much easier than you think, follow the step by step below on how to fold a wrap.
  • You can enjoy this buffalo chicken wrap recipe cold, warm or hot which makes it ideal for picnics, potlucks, lunches, dinner, entertaining, tailgating and more.
  • If you’re looking for a healthier option, try the Chicken Shawarma Lettuce Cups using today’s flavors.
  • This recipe can be made in advance and assembled, or made and assembled the day of. It’s a great choice for meal prep as well.

Buffalo Chicken Wrap Ingredients

ingredients on a table for making buffalo chicken wraps. Including: a plate of chicken breasts, a bowl of hot sauce, a small bowl of meted butter, small bowls of spice like garlic powder, salt, pepper, brown sugar, chilli flakes and paprika

  • Chicken Breast. Ideal for this recipe, however you can use store-bought  rotisserie.
  • Hot Sauce. Frank’s hot sauce or your favorite spicy tangy one.
  • Melted Butter. This adds juiciness to the chicken and a buttery taste to cut back on the string hot sauce.
  • Salt and Pepper. To season the sauce.
  • Garlic Powder. It flavors the buffalo sauce
  • Brown Sugar. Sweetens the buffalo sauce
  • Chilli Powder. This is optional for extra spice.
  • Paprika. Flavors the sauce.
  • Fresh thyme (optional). This adds a bright fresh taste to the sauce.

How to Make Buffalo Chicken Wrap

Chicken breasts cut up into strips on the plate using scissors shown next to the plate

  1. Use a scissors or knife to slice your chicken breasts into strips. It’s best to have them cut into strips as they cook with the sauce and if you cut them down, they will release extra liquid into the pan.
Chicken strips are added to the buffalo sauce along with melted butter, spices and brown sugar and mixed well
  2. Make the buffalo sauce: Add the melted butter, garlic powder, paprika, chilli powder, salt and pepper to the bowl of hot sauce and mix well. Then add in the chicken strips and allow them to absorb the flavors for at least 15 minutes before proceeding. The chicken can sit in this mixture for up to 4 hours.
The chicken and sauces are all added into a heavy cast iron skillet with sauce and everything
  3. Heat up a heavy cooking skillet like a cast iron, you don’t need to add oil or butter or anything to it. Pour the chicken and hot sauce all together in to that hot skillet and cook over high heat tossing until the chicken is cooked.
Steaming hot chicken fully cooked in the cast iron skillet and ready
  4. After 5-7 minutes of cooking, the chicken will turn opaque and the buffalo sauce will cook down enough to just coat the chicken. At this point the chicken is ready.
A hand holding a bowl of blue cheese dressing prepared and ready
  5. Have your blue cheese dressing ready, preferably ahead of time. I almost have a jar of this in my fridge as we use it endlessly!
All ingredients ready to assemble the buffalo chicken wrap on a board. Including a bowl of blue cheese sauce, the cooked buffalo chicken in a bowl, shredded carrots, diced celery, shredded cheese, sliced avocados, lettuce. green onions and flour tortillas
  6. Gather all your buffalo chicken wrap toppings and ingredients on a bowl so you can start assembling the wrap. We LOVE chopped celery, sliced avocados, cut up lettuce, shredded cheese, shredded carrots, green onions and of course flour tortillas.

Assemble the Buffalo Chicken Wrap

A spoon spreading some blue cheese dressing at the base of a flour tortilla

  1. Start by spreading the Blue Cheese Dressing at the bottom of a flour tortilla.
A hand adding lettuce and green onions over the blue cheese spread along the center of a tortilla.
  2. Notice how the dressing and toppings are along the center of the tortilla, this helps tremendously with wrapping it later. So start piling your toppings along the middle and over the sauce. Start with the lettuce, shredded carrots and green onions.
A hand adding the shredded cheese and carrots as part of the toppings
  3. Continue with the toppings piling them along the middle, leaving the chicken and avocado last.
The cooked chicken is now added in the wrap right on top of the remaining ingredients.
  4. Time for the chicken. Add the chicken and sauce–make sure you include the saucy Buffalo goodness that was in the skillet when cooking the chicken! it’s SO GOOD!!!
The final layer of the buffalo chicken wrap is the sliced avocados.
  5. A final layer of sliced avocados completes the toppings. Now your wrap is ready to be folded.

How to Fold a Wrap

Here’s a step by step tutorial on folding perfect wraps, and for reference make sure to also watch the video above.

first step showing how to fold a wrap is by pushing the side closer to you slightly over the filling

  1. The first step is to take the side closer to you and fold it gently to cover most of the filling.second step to fold a wrap is a hand showing how to fold the sides over the center to encompass the filling inside
  2. You’ll then hold off one side of the tortilla while keeping the first fold in tact, and fold the side over the center. Make sure to press with your fingers at the junctions to keep the filling intact and encompassed inside the folds you create.
The second side is folded the same way
  3. Repeat the side fold with the other side. You should have both sides folded as shown above so that the filling is fully covered between the sides.
Once side are secure, a hand is then continuing to fold the wrap
  4. Once both sides are secured using your fingers and intact, you’ll gently continue folding the wrap in a slow rolling motion. Try to be slow as you roll to keep the filling intact and the fold as tight as possible. You need to have a grip as you fold.
The wrap is fully folded now and rolled and a hand is holding it
  5. Continue rolling until all the tortilla is rolled finally. You should have a tight wrap where the filling is intact and tightly wrapped in the tortilla.
A hand holding the wrap on the other side showing how the seem looks sealed.
  6. For reference, we’re showing above how the wrap looks on the other side. You can see where the edges meet and how the seem feels like it’s compact and tightly wrapped. So this easy tutorial is how you fold a wrap! 🙂

What Does Buffalo Chicken Wrap Contain?

The star is the chicken cooked in buffalo sauce. Other toppings are personal to your taste but we include celery, avocado, cheese, lettuce, green onions and carrots in a flour tortilla.

Is Buffalo Chicken Spicy?

The beauty of buffalo sauce is the mellow buttery taste which comes from the melted butter that cuts down the spice along with some brown  sugar. So overall it’s not too spicy, it is quite balanced. If you are however on the look for something spicy, I can’t recommend the Hot Honey Recipe enough!! And of course my grandpa’s viral Hot Pepper Sauce.

Are the wraps served cold or hot?

As mentioned earlier, we love them BOTH cold and hot. Depends on the occasion, they are actually delicious eitherway!

Is Buffalo the same as hot sauce?

While it is made of hot sauce, addition of melted butter and spices transforms the sauce into something else!

What flavor is buffalo?

It’s a blend of butter, tang, salty, spicy and sweet
