I love this recipe. I love a nice steak. And I love a nice Steak Sandwich. But also, I love to twist things up! There’s something about steak, blue cheese and balsamic that’s irresistibly delicious. Now add some fresh sliced figs to that and it’s like a bomb of a steak sandwich! A Blue Cheese Philly Steak Sandwich!

Why this Blue Cheese Philly Steak Sandwich recipe works:

These are not your average Philly Steak Sandwiches, they have all the flavours of a good steak, and they’re paired with blue cheese, fresh sliced figs, arugula and balsamic vinegar. Then the whole sandwich is pressed into a panini maker and cut up into bite size steak sandwich bites of pure bliss!

This recipe for Blue Cheese Philly Steak Sandwiches tastes super steak-y. So don’t feel the blue cheese and balsamic are overpowering here—they actually compliment the meat perfectly.

If you’re looking for a cheaper cut of meat that still has an AMAZING steak flavor—no look further than this blue cheese Philly steak sandwich with figs!

How to make these Blue Cheese Philly Steak Sandwiches:

It all starts with a steak, about 75% frozen. It should be hard, but not rock hard. Use a nice sharp knife to thinly slice the meat into paper-thin slices. Then you may cut the slices down into strips about 2” x 1”.

At this point, season the meat slices take some salt, pepper and a little bit of dried oregano and or rosemary. Then the meat goes right into a really hot pan—like super hot. Along with sliced onions and mushrooms.
Keep stirring and mixing until the meat is no longer pink on the outside and the onions and mushrooms are softened. The meat cooks really quick because the steak slices are super thin and the pan is super hot! And just like that, your meat is perfectly cooked, tender, flavorful and scrumptious—irrespective of the type of cut!

Take the baguettes and slice them in half. Add a drizzle of balsamic vinegar to the garlic blue cheese dip and spread this over the bread. Arrange some arugula on top of the sandwich bread, top this with the meat mixture, sliced figs and crumbled blue cheese.

Put the baguettes into a panini press and press it for 5 mins. Then, slice the sandwich into small strips about 2”X1” in size and serve your Blue Cheese Philly Steak Sandwiches with the dips.

Your perfect bite of Blue Cheese Philly Steak Sandwich with figs tastes like this: strong steak-y beef with a crunchy bread, creamy blue cheese and sweet balsamic!

I LOVE serving these Blue Cheese Philly Steak Sandwiches with 2 fabulous easy dips—this crowd-pleasing garlic blue cheese dip, and a simple dip of pure reduced balsamic vinegar (which is basically balsamic vinegar boiled down and reduced from 1 cup to 1/4 cup—you can read about this in this fabulous rainbow power grilled haloumi salad).

Now pick any cut of meat, figs or not, make this recipe for Blue Cheese Philly Steak Sandwiches today!!!

Tips for success:

  • My fabulous tip for you to cook your meat perfectly no matter what type of cut it is? Freeze your piece of meat until it’s about 75% frozen—so not rock hard, but definitely hard. Then take your nice sharp knife and slice the meat paper-thin slices. I prefer slicing thin slices and then cutting them up into about 2 inches by 1-inch strips.
  • For this Blue Cheese Philly Steak recipe, you do not need to buy the most expensive steak. Even with a cheaper cut of meat this Philly Steak Sandwich still has an AMAZING steak flavor.
  • Let’s face it – fresh figs are not widely available! I’ve made this Blue Cheese Philly Steak Sandwich recipe many times before sans figs and they were still so so so GOOD! It’s just that I have a soft spot for figs 😉

Ingredients

For the meat:

  • 1 1/2 lbs beef (Any cut you prefer or have on hand—about 75%frozen, but not rock hard)
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 2 tablespoons canola oil
  • 1 large red onion thinly sliced
  • 6 oz cremini mushrooms thinly sliced

For the sandwiches:

  • 2 medium baguettes
  • 1/3 cup blue cheese dip store-bought
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1/4 cup blue cheese crumbled
  • 1 cup arugula
  • 3 purple figs , thinly sliced

To serve:

  • garlic blue cheese dip
  • balsamic reduction ( from my recipe for rainbow power grilled halloumi salad)

Instructions

  1. Take the frozen piece of meat (it should be hard, but not rock hard) and use a nice sharp knife to thinly slice the meat into paper-thin slices. Then you may cut the slices down into strips about 2”X1”.
  2. Season the meat with all the spices and set aside.
  3. Preheat a skillet or cast iron pan over high heat until it’s very hot. Then add in the oil, onions, mushrooms and meats.
  4. Keep stirring the mixture over high heat until the meat is no longer pink, and the onions and mushrooms are softened. This will take about 10-15 mins (depending on the size and thickness of the meat slices).
  5. Take the baguettes and slice them in half. Add the balsamic vinegar to the garlic blue cheese dip and spread this over the bread.
  6. Place some arugula over the bread, top this with the meat mixture, sliced figs and crumbled blue cheese.
  7. Put the baguettes into a panini press and press it for 5 mins.
  8. Slice the sandwich into small strips about 2”X1” in size and serve with the dips. ( For the balsamic reduction, follow this recipe)

This is honestly one of the best recipes I have seen in a a while! It is so unique and the use of fogs throws it over the top! I came here from your Facebook page and Pinned this too. Amazing job!

Yes!!! I love philly cheesesteak. I’m not too sure about blue cheese. They’re too bold for me but I shall be bold to try em right? 🙂 I love that they’re cut into small strips too. That way, I can eat more of em. Hah!

Aiping–try goat cheese or feta cheese, they’re still “bold” and will work perfectly well with all the flavours going on here 🙂 Thanks and enjoy! 🙂
