Today’s crispy bites of flavor bursts is sponsored by my friends at Crock-Pot – makers of quality appliances with endless uses in your kitchen! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

MIXED NUTS

Mixed nuts are one of my favorite things. They’re versatile, roast on their own with minimal effort on your end. Plus, you can probably eat them everyday in different ways.

Think of nuts on your salad, pasta, grilled chicken and more. Even better, eat them as they are!

Mixed nuts are a crowd pleaser. I love them for entertaining, they’re easy, fool proof and can be flavored endlessly.

HOW TO ROAST NUTS

While everyone roasts nuts in the oven and worries about them burning too fast, I roast them in a CrockPot! Today I used my beloved Crock-Pot® 7-Qt. Cook & Carry™ Easy to Clean Slow Cooker.

Box of crock-pot used for roasting the nuts

I love this Crock-Pot for so many reasons. It has a nonstick oval stoneware inside which serves as a beautiful serving dish. The lid has a gasket which locks in all the heat and makes transporting dishes super easy.

My CrockPot is my favorite appliance when I need to plan ahead. Another thing I love is that I can be slow cooking/roasting in my Crock-Pot without continuously following up if the food is ready or not.

setting up the crock pot for three hours on high to start the roasting process

So today’s mixed nuts are roasted for three hours. I don’t need to be worrying about them being done. I can be dong anything else in the meantime.

Here’s a step by step on making this!

SPICED NUTS RECIPE

Use a combination of your favorite nuts or just one if you prefer.

All the ingredients for the spiced nuts: honey, butter, spice, nuts and the crockpot

In a separate bowl, add your melted butter, brown sugar, salt , pepper, fresh minced rosemary, honey and chilli flakes.

The butter and spice ingredients being poured over a bowl of mixed nuts

Add that to the mixed nuts. Toss them well and put the in you stoneware in the Crock-Pot. Now set it to high for 3 hours, cover and seal the lid very well.

I like to check on my nuts and give them a light toss every 45 minutes or so. The last hour, I’ve found that its’ best to switch the setting to low. And check on the nuts 10 minutes before the 3 hour period.

The mixed nuts ready in a crockpot

Once the time is up, the nuts will probably still look soft to you. That’s because they need to be spread out on a parchment lined baking sheet and allowed to cool for 10 minutes. During this time they will harden.

TIPS FOR SPICED NUTS

-Choose your favorite nuts, no need to chop them. It’s best to use them whole.

-Feel free to add extra salt if you prefer a rather saltier mixed nuts. Likewise you can remove or add more spice depending on your taste.

-While you may mix all ingredients in a Crock-Pot, I prefer mixing everything in a bowl first to avoid scratching the stoneware of my Crock-Pot.

-Ideally, it’s best to mix the nuts every 30-45 minutes.

-Do not wait until the nuts feel crunchy in the Crock-Pot. Just rely on them being deeply golden and rely on the time.

-The nuts harden as they cool so the fastest way for them to cool is to spread them on a parchment lined baking sheet.

-Once they cool completely, it’s best to store the nuts in a sealed container.

-Nuts can keep at room temperature for over two weeks. Likewise, you can freeze the nuts well sealed for about three months.
