Recipe Notes

Mayonnaise Biscuits Recipe Tips

  1. Use quality mayonnaise for this recipe. You'll be relying on it for fat, tenderness and overall taste of the biscuit recipe. It won't necessarily taste like mayo, but the ingredients of the mayo will contribute.
  2. You'll need to use real MAYO here--no salad dressings or low fat substitutes.
  3. It's best to use a bowl and whisk only for this recipe.
  4. Don’t overmix the dough. A light hand keeps the biscuits tender.
  5. Folding the dough into thirds crates a flakier and layered biscuit, but it's completely optional of course.
  6. If your kitchen is hot, it's best to use cold ingredients. In general using cold ingredients helps with flakeier biscuits.
  7. Make sure the oven is well preheated before baking.
  8. Sprinkle your favorite sugars, herbs, cheeses, spices on the biscuits before baking.
  9. Likewise you can use add-ins. Add in some shredded cheese, chives, garlic powder, or even crumbled bacon in the dough.
  10. These particular biscuits are super forgiving, so feel free to experiment.
  11. If you don't have self rising flour, follow our recipe below.

What do mayonnaise biscuits taste like?

They have a sweet tender taste which is like a cross between a biscuit and a muffin. The mayo flavor disappears during baking, but leaves in a creamy bread-y like taste.

Can I use Greek yogurt instead of mayo?

NO. Greek yogurt while creates soft bakes is not like mayonnaise. It lacks the amount of fat the mayonnaise has, so the texture will be drier.

Do I need to grease the Baking Sheet?

We prefer using baking sheets lined with parchment paper.

Can I freeze mayonnaise biscuits?

YES. Freeze in a ziploc bag that is airtight and reheat later. We LOVE reheating them in an air fryer or oven once they're defrosted. Avoid the microwave when possible for reheating.

Are mayonnaise biscuits healthy?

They’re lower in saturated fat than butter-based biscuits, but still indulgent. The avocado oil mayo is definitely a BETTER option.
