Recipe Notes

How to Know your Microwave?

This is the golden question as our recipe is a microwave recipe similar to the Brownie In A Mug cake. Here are key points:

  • Our microwave is 1100 Watt which is the average watts for microwaves. You may find older models that have a range of 700-1500 watts so it's best to double check.
  • If your microwave operates at a lower watt, you'll add about 10 seconds of cooking time.
  • Likewise if your microwave is higher than 1100 watts, you'll remove an average of 10 seconds of coking time.
  • While your microwave may fit 3 or so cakes, it's best to cook ONE cake at a time. That's because the heat will never distribute evenly and you will not have the same results.
  • Where to put the mug in the microwave? While it may sounds obvious to have it in the center, we found that placing the ramekin or mug on the OUTER EDGE of the microwave plate will distribute the heat better!

Oreo Mug Cake Tips, FAQ

  • While this is a three ingredients simple microwave baking recipe, make sure you measure the ingredients correctly. baking needs to be precise nonetheless.
  • Know your microwave before proceeding  (read the section above).
  • Crush the mixture well before putting he cake into the microwave, we found that a fork works best.
  • Avoid overcooking the cake, it may turn rubbery.
  • While this is a single serving recipe, it can be multiplied and made into large quantities, but as mentioned above, please bake one at a tie for best results.
  • Also place the bowl around the edges of the microwave plate not the center during cooking.
  • Enjoy this cake right away!

Why is my Mug Cake mushy / Rubery?

Over cooking the cake make it rubbery. Using extra oil, milk and liquid can be the cake mushy, along with under coking it. SO please follow the instructions carefully.

Are mug cakes safe to eat?

ABSOLUTELY! There are no raw ingredients here like eggs that are unsafe to eat, and the baking powder is cooke din the microwave so it's safe.

Are Mug Cakes Supposed to be gooey?

Unlike traditional cakes, mug cakes are usually slightly softer and gooey in the center only.

Why are Mug Cakes so popular?

Primarily because they're single serving, can be cooked in 1 minute and prepared in 2 minutes! So it's a win win when you need a quick fix! They also require minimal ingredients and no baking skills, so anyone can do it!

Can I make oreo Mug cake in advance?

It's not advised because these cakes are best enjoyed right away. They tend to become chewier and harder with time.

How to make Oreo Mug Cake in the Oven?

It will require preheating the oven to 375. Follow the recipe exactly as above and place the batter in an oven safe dish (here you can bake several at the same time, just place them on a baking tray) and bake the cake for 15 minutes until the center comes out clean with a toothpick.
