Recipe Notes

Burrata Tips

  • Use good quality burrata cheese. Make sure to read the expiry date as burrata cheese is fresh and usually has a short shelf life.
  • Burrata cheese comes stored in water, and it's best to keep it in water until ready to use.
  • Cook the pasta in well-salted water to bring out its flavor and don't overcook the pasta, as it can become mushy.
  • Keep at least 1 1/2 cups of pasta water on the side. This will help you create the sauce.
  • Sun Dried Tomato Pesto adds so much flavor to the pasta and it's a no cook sauce, yet so very tasty and rich!
  • Basil Pesto is a bright alternative and super refreshing when combined with burrata cheese.
  • Start by adding the pesto to coat the pasta and then introduce the pasta water as a way to loosen up and create a "saucy" sauce.
  • Alternate the pasta water and parmesan cheese while tossing the pasta to create a well balanced sauce. Personalize your sauce thickness and flavor based on your taste. So feel free to add more or less.
  • The burrata cheese sits comfortably over the pasta--no need to toss it in. Just make sure you break it apart and allow it to slow seep in the sauce.
  • Garnish with chilli flakes (optional), fresh basil and more Parm.

FAQs

Can burrata be used in pasta?

Yes, burrata can be used in pasta. It is a type of cheese made from mozzarella and cream, and it has a soft, creamy texture. Burrata is typically used as a topping on pizza or salads, but you can also use it in pasta dishes.

What pasta goes with burrata?

There are so many delicious options for pairing pasta with burrata cheese. My favorites include:

  • Rigatoni with roasted cherry tomatoes and basil.
  • Penne with pancetta, peas and parmesan.
  • Bucatini pasta with sun dried tomatoes, kalamata olives, and feta.

But really, any type of pasta dish that features fresh, in-season vegetables and a robust sauce would be delicious with creamy burrata cheese.

Can you melt burrata?

Yes, you can melt burrata cheese, but it gets quite watery when melted. So only melt it for the dishes where liquid consistency won't alter the taste.
