Ingredients

Burgers

  • 1 pound ground beef extra lean
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt kosher
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper coarsley ground
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon oregano dried
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup cheddar cheese shredded

Onions and Mushrooms

  • 1 red onion sliced
  • 2/3 cup mushrooms sliced
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt kosher
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Assembly

  • 4 burger buns pretzel buns
  • 4 teaspoons Ranch dressing
  • 2 tablespoons Sriracha more or less to taste
  • 1 avocado sliced
  • 1/2 cup arugula
  • 4 tablespoons chedar cheese optional for topping

Instructions

  1. BBQ:
Start to heat up the grill. Now either use a grill sheet (the perforated ones) with sliced onions and mushrooms, or skewer the onions and mushrooms for grilling. First, toss the onions and mushrooms with seasoning and oil, then grill over medium high heat with lid shut.

For the burgers: Mix all ingredients except cheese and divide the mixture into 4 pieces.

Flatten each piece and add a tablespoon of cheese in the center of each, then enclose the cheese and seal the beef around the edges.

Roll the patty slightly and re-flatten into a disc shape. Grill the patties for 4-6 minutes per side with the grill lid shut. The mushrooms and onions can be grilled side by side and ready at the same time.

    SKILLET:

If you're using a skillet. you'll need to heat up a non stick skillet and sauté the mushrooms and onions for nearly 8-10 minutes in olive oil after seasoning them. Remove them from the skillet but use the same one to pan fry your burgers in for a but of extra flavor too!

While the patties are cooking/grilling, you can begin spreading the buns with the condiments of your choice. Today I used: Ranch, Sriracha, avocados, arugula, salt and pepper. Extras: Tomatoes, more onions, greens, pickles, etc. Finally once the burger is ready, sprinkle some extra cheddar cheese over the top and it will melt naturally over the hot burger. So stack the cheeseburger over the bun and DIG in!!

    Enjoy!

Recipe Notes

  • Make sure not to overcook the beef – no longer than five minutes per side. If your beef patties are really thick, then you may need to cover the pan after flipping and cook them covered.
  • You can use lean or extra-lean beef for your patties, depending on your taste.
  • Top your burger buns with different toppings, condiments and flavors.
  • Try a different cheese if you like – blue cheese is a great alternative for cheddar in this recipe!
