These two fizzy summer drinks recipes are a great way to celebrate what’s left this Summer. A fresh watermelon and strawberry drink that’s spiked with a ginger fizz, and a zesty lime and fresh mint drink that’s also spiked with ginger fizz. Both fresh and refreshing, these two fizzy Summer drinks will brighten up your day!
I am one of those still lingering on so badly to Summer. I try to pretend I don’t see any pumpkins around me or smell any Fall spice in the air. I also pretend I don’t need a sweater. I’m just not ready. Even though a part of me wants to be there, wants to be drenched in everything pumpkin and soak up every bit of Fall comfort, the other part of me is just not there yet. Today I’m that part.
So today I made these two fizzy Summer drinks to reassure myself it can still feel like Summer in September no matter what the sings are. That doesn’t mean I promise never to make them when it gets colder, because I absolutely will!
The watermelon and strawberry drink reminds me of the Mexican agua fresca. When it comes to Mexican, I’m very much a fan of it all—and I have a soft spot for the classics like this awesome classic Mexican guacamole and this restaurant style Mexican salsa. So here I deviated a little and added ginger—which it give it a perfect spike. The lime and mint is such a classic which can’t go wrong when combined with ginger either.
So for these two fizzy Summer drinks I use good old ginger-ale as my flavor and fizz factor, and also as my sweetener so I don’t add extra sugar. For the record, a lemon fizzy drink will work perfectly well with both drinks too. The watermelon and strawberry drink only needs a little sweetening because I happen to pick a super sweet watermelon (which may sound obvious, but it isn’t always the case) and I used super ripe strawberries too. The Lime mint drink however needs quite a bit of sweetening so that’s why it’s fizzier and more ginger-ish (if that’s even a word).
I would’ve made those two fun sweet drink for kids if it wasn’t for the fizzy-ness so feel free to skip it and substitute that with water and honey to sweeten up your watermelon strawberry, and a safe sweetener for the lime mint.
A final note on the lime mint drink, I make it with only fresh mint leaves no mint oils or flavoring—because that’s how my mom always made it, she actually made this long long time ago before it ever became that common. Another tip, she always added 2 slices of lime into the blender—this makes the green color pop up and gives a slight extra sourness to the drink which you don’t wanna miss if you’re a lime-mint person! Two Fizzy Summer Drinks
- Watermelon Strawberry Ginger Drink:
- 1 small cold watermelon , peeled, deseeded and cut into 1 inch chunks
- 2 cups of hulled cold strawberries
- 1 cup of cold ginger-ale (or Lemon fizzy drink)
- squeeze of lime (1 tablespoon)
- Lime Mint Ginger Fizzy Drink:
- 3 cold limes juiced ( about 1/3 cup)
- 2 lime slices
- 1/4 cup of fresh mint leaves , washed and stemmed
- 3 cups of cold ginger ale (or Lemon fizzy drink)
- For serving:
- Fresh mint leaves
- Lime slices
For the watermelon strawberry ginger drink: Blend all ingredients until smooth.
For the Lime Mint Ginger Fizzy Drink: Blend all ingredients until smooth.
