Grilled succulent steak, crunchy lettuce and cabbage, plenty of add ons, a taco shell, and the absolute instant fire roasted salsa to drizzle on top! Just deliciousness! These tacos are perfect for entertaining and can be prepared so well in advance too, now your next Taco party just got SO much better!

This year we’ve been blessed with such a beautiful end of summer season, it’s probably one of the warmest and gorgeous weather we’ve had! And you know what that means—our BBQ and light fresh summer meals haven’t stopped, yaaay! If you live in a warm place all year long, I absolutely envy you. I remember when I used to live in Miami, I used to hear things like this all the time but it didn’t quite resonate until I moved away lol So far I’m not missing you Miami, but in a few months I know I will 🙂
This gorgeous weather certainly calls for some taco fun! And it’s all about steak tacos today! Because I’ve got the best quickest and easiest salsa recipe you can imagine, this gives me time to go for a steak filling. I can almost say that steak tacos are my favorite—they’re hearty, filling and taste SO GOOD! The type of steak for your steak taco is totally optional, they way you prepare the steak is also optional, more on that below!
Another thing I want to mention is the toppings here. The sky’s your limit, totally! My brother loves his steak tacos loaded with cheeses and ranch and what not, I rather love my steak tacos very light. The only toppings I prefer are my awesome out of this world salsa, crunchy cabbage and lettuce, smooth avocados, scallions, some jalapeños and fresh cilantro. I feel this seems like the best way for me to really taste my steak in the steak tacos. Because let’s face it, you want to taste that succulent hearty steak! But I’ll say for the record, no matter how you tweak the ingredients and toppings to personalize these tacos, I guarantee you’ll enjoy them!
Let’s talk about this fire roasted salsa here. I chose the Muir Glen fire roasted diced tomatoes (again, all their products are top notch I can’t encourage you enough to try them!). Since It’s a grilled steak tacos recipe, and since our weather is perfect for grilling, the fire roasted tomatoes was certainly my pick! Just open the can and pour it over a bowl of your favorite fiery salsa ingredients—diced red onions, minced garlic, chopped cilantro, chopped parsley, lime juice, olive oil, dried oregano, a touch of cumin, chilli powder and diced jalapeño (optional). Mix and you’re all set!
For the steak, while a fancy tenderloin cut would be my pick, any other steak cut would work GREAT! Try hanger steak, rib, round, sirloin..whatever you chose. Just season that lightly with salt and pepper and throw it on the grill for 6-10 minutes er side (depending on the thickness and desired doneness of your steak). No marinades or fuss because you’ll be getting so much flavor from the salsa, you really don’t need anything but the real steak flavor from your steaks!
Once the steak is done, slice it into strip and start assembling your tacos. I love starting off with some crunchy dry cabbage or lettuce, that way my tacos don’t get soggy. Then I add a dollop of salsa to give my veggies the flavor boost they need, steak goes over that, more salsa goodness, more toppings and oh yes, more salsa again. At that point, all you can do is just dig in! Those steak tacos are a great choice for entertaining too, so simply prep all the ingredients ahead of time and assemble them when your guests arrive. Or better off, have everyone assemble their own perfect steak taco!

Steak Tacos with The Best Fire Roasted Salsa
For the Steak:
- 1.5 lbs of your favorite steak cut trimmed from fat
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon of pepper
- 1 teaspoon of oil
Fire roasted salsa:
- 2 cups of Muir Glen Fire Roasted Diced Tomatoes
- 1/2 cup of minced red onions
- 2 cloves of garlic finely minced
- 1/4 cup of minced cilantro and parsley
- juice of 1 lime
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- pinch of cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon of chilli powder
- 1/4 teaspoon of oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon of paprika
- 1 Tablespoon of olive oil
Toppings and Taco Shells:
- 16-20 taco shells
- Shredded Lettuce
- Shredded Cabbage
- Sliced Avocados
- Diced tomatoes
- diced Jalapeños
- fresh chopped cilantro
- chopped scallions
- diced red onions
- Preheat your grill to medium high, season the steak and grill anywhere from 6-10 minutes per side (depending on how this your steak is and how you prefer to be). For an inch thick, medium rare, go for 8 minutes per side.
- When steak is ready, set aside and start slicing it to your desired shape/thickness.
- In a medium bowl, add all the salsa ingredients and mix.
- Assemble the tacos by layering some crunchy cabbage and lettuce at the bottom of a taco shell, drizzle a teaspoon of salsa on top, add the steak, more salsa, your favorite toppings, more salsa and serve right away! Enjoy!!
